Too Crowded

I mostly like this page, but it’s not without it’s problems.

The main issue is that it’s too cramped, the result of last minute script revisions.

For instance, I added the “Kaboom” panel late in the process to make it clear that Vamos has shattered Shield’s forcefield with his flurry of punches and kicks. Without his cheeky comment I wasn’t sure it was entirely clear what was going on.

Experimental Panels

I’m not sure how I feel about the overlapping panels in bottom half of the page. I only had a dozen or so pages under my belt at this point and I was still experimenting with what worked.

I don’t think the overlapping really adds much to the action, so, I if we’re creating this page today, I’d probably go with a more traditional layout.

JLU Inspired

The inspiration for Vamos’s attack on Shield’s forcefield comes from an episode of Justice League Unlimited called the Great Brain Robbery.

In the episode, the Flash and Lex Luther switch bodies. With the Flash’s powers, Luther is basically unstoppable, and eventually ends up in a fight where he shatters Green Lantern’s energy field with a million punches.

The same is going on here. Vamos is tearing through Shield’s forcefield with lighting fast punches and kick.

Nothing visibly wrong here but is it possible to take out Shield's shield by punching and kicking it??

Edit, more than half a day later: Hmm, seeing this page again, I would expect Vamos...

The inspiration for Vamos’s attack on Shield’s energy force field comes from an episode of Justice League Unlimited called the Great Brain Robbery.

In the episode, The Flash and Lex Luthor switch bodies. With The Flash’s powers Luthor is basically unstoppable, using them to their full potential to curb stomp most of the League.

In the scene I drew inspiration from, Luthor makes short work of Green Lantern’s energy field by pummeling it with punches.

The idea in Panel 2 is that Vamos is doing the same. He’s hammering away at Shield’s force field, hitting it with hundreds if not thousands of near simultaneous super fast kicks and punches.

Of course, I can’t render thousands of instances, so five had to do.

OK. I see an can accept that.

But Flash against an energy field of Green Lantern? Flash is not super strong, last time I checked. That would be like... A sandstorm against an energy field of GL. GL should be able to to keep it up forever with ease. (Gosh I really hate such things that are by all means impossible, given the abilities of comic heroes. I won't say that Flash cannot win against GL at all, but not using something as easy as that.)
Now here, it depends... But what if Shield had to face a hail of bullets from several machine guns, would she be in trouble? I'm sure Sydney Scoville wouldn't. Not to speak of GL.

The Flash’s powers wildly fluctuate depending on the writer and the medium. Sometimes he’s faster than the speed of light. Other times he can barely catch a car.

My understanding is that when he has speed of light-level powers, his punches have incredible force and are literally tearing apart the molecules they come in contact with.

My character bible for Shield says that her force field bubbles are:

a) not created equal (differ in strength depending on concentration, fatigue, etc.)
b) not of uniform strength (they’re strongest wherever she’s focused)

I’d say that multiple machine guns firing from a single direction probably wouldn’t be a problem, but those same guns all firing from different directions might. (This all remains to be tested.)
