Hmm, so the copies are no heavy hitters. Then size would be not more than a deception, me thinks. One would expect more mass in a bigger body, but here that wouldn't be the case.

No, the larger duplicates have a larger mass, and strength proportional to that.

The larger duplicate threw that one guard in the air.

(I guess that didn't come across.)

Oh, I thought because "hard light"... actually, I don't really know what I thought. Perhaps more like illusions with a hard outer shell :D

Here's the trope description:

"When ordinary light, whether it comes from science fiction projectors or a magic spell, seems to have (or really does have) actual substance, it's Hard Light. Hard light objects behave like any other object — chairs support weight, bullets kill, razors shave, and so forth. An illusory person made of Hard Light can pick up real things and interact physically with real people, even though they don't technically exist."

Aha. I wasn't aware of that description, thanks.

Once I had a different idea: Merely a 3D projection of the visible spectrum plus a force field, say, of the shape of a person. Could pick up and hold small things but if you punch it, your fist would go through it and it would only move a little.
